job, tonso capite

(2017) SATB

Sacred Latin motet.

The book of Job is one of the Bible's most heart-breaking stories. In it, we encounter a story about a man's immeasurable amount of suffering. Job's story of resilience and turn to prayer is very relatable on so many levels; at the most basic level, it is a human story. Here, we find God's response to human suffering. With the help of my friend Scott, here is the text in English:

Job, head shaven, falling down on the ground, adored and said: Naked I came out of my mother's womb, and naked shall I return there. The Lord gives and the Lord takes away. As it pleases the Lord, so let it be done. May the name of the Lord be blessed, from now on and for evermore.
